See Rock City”1950s Style!

We™re heading to Lookout Mountain this fall, and you™re invited to come along! The Tennessee State Museum continues its popular œExploring Tennessee bus trip series with a trek southbound and down. Celebrating the popularity of the nation's early highway system and recognizing its impact on tourism unique to Tennessee, we will trace the route and visit the destinations enjoyed by countless families then and now.

We will set out from Nashville early on Saturday, November 5, 2016, hopping on a portion of the historic Dixie Highway as it curves through the small towns of Middle Tennessee and on into East Tennessee. Like so many travelers before us, Hwy 41 will take us right to the foot of famed Lookout Mountain, where we will ride the Incline Railway and see Rock City. Sit back and delight in the trip “ we™ve got the driving, lunch, and tickets under control!

Enhancing the day will be commentary about both the Highway and the sites by noted historians Martha Carver and Claudette Steger. Carver, retired historian for Tennessee Department of Transportation, and Steger, preservation officer for the State Historical Commission, wrote the book Looking Beyond the Highway: Dixie Roads and Culture, and they look forward to sharing fascinating stories of their studies with us.

The cost is $85 a person if you book before October 15 and $90 afterwards. The cost covers transportation, lunch, snacks, our lecturers' honorarium fees, and admission tickets to the Incline and Rock City.

There are limited seats available, so this trip should sell out quickly “ don't delay, book today!
