 2013 Summer Workshops

This summer experience all the Tennessee State Museum has to offer. Take advantage of three seperate days of professional development opportunities and learn more about our state’s rich history. Enjoy a day of enrichment with educators from across the state and get a first look at Tennessee in the new content standards.

1. New to the Tennessee State Museum? Get it all with…Tennessee to the Core!

For Elementary Teachers (Grades K-4): Thursday, June 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For Secondary Teachers (Grades 5-12): Friday, June 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Earn: 6 hours of in-service credits
Cost: $25

Highlights include:

• A day to learn how the Tennessee State Museum can help teachers integrate Tennessee into the Common Core
• Experience programs and tours to target both core and content standards
• Learn about outreach resources available to teachers including the Tennessee Traveling Trunks and TN4me.org
• Receive new common core lesson ideas for Tennessee
• Get a first look at Tennessee in the new content standards and how the State Museum plans to support them

2. From Territory to Early Statehood: Exploring Tennessee Frontiers


Build your knowledge with our content focus study and learn more about Tennessee’s early history as a frontier territory.

Friday, June 28: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For Elementary and Secondary Teachers
Earn: 6 hours of in-service credits
Cost: $25


Highlights include:

• Get to know our early leaders including John Sevier, William Blount, and James Robertson
• Learn engaging techniques to teach this fascinating period in history
• Understand the complex interplay between cultural powers including French, Spanish, English, and Native Americans

• Explore the material culture of the frontier period at the Tennessee State Museum
