Visiting the Museum

Exhibits at the Tennessee State Museum begin with prehistoric people and continue through the early 1900s. There are special displays about explorers, pioneers, Civil War, Reconstruction, and even an Egyptian mummy, which is almost 3,500 years old! The State Museum 's Civil War holdings of uniforms, battle flags, and weapons are among the finest in the nation. Reservations are required for all museum programs.

Museum Lessons

The museum's program staff offers special tours called "museum lessons" about certain aspects of history or the exhibits. The lessons relate to the Tennessee State Curriculum Standards. Most lessons last from 30 to 45 minutes, and are available Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
